Barbara Lesperance
Barbara Lesperance is a retired teacher-librarian who has spent at least a part of every summer at Silver Islet since she was 13 years old. Her grandparents began this tradition when they purchased a camp in the early 1920’s, and her parents also spent many months of the year there. Since 1980 she and her husband have owned an original miner’s home and this is where she learned about gardening.
She says: “The history of the town and the stories of the early days told by friends and family have always interested me. The village’s romantic past, the vastness of Lake Superior, the overwhelming feeling of oneness with nature and the beautiful gardens of Silver Islet combine to create an atmosphere that is magical.”
Barbara lives in Thornhill, Ontario with her husband, Phil.
