Loon Harbor
Although not every day is bright and sunny along Ontario’s coast, even a gray day in Loon Harbor is beautiful. Here we are anchored in our favorite spot in Loon.

Loon Harbor is one of our favorite anchorages in the Wilderness Islands along Ontario’s coast. This harbor is well protected, with islands all around to break the fury of Lake Superior’s angrier days, as well as being very beautiful. Since this harbor is so wonderful, it is also a popular stopping off place for many sailors sailing this coastline. The island in the photograph has two established campfire spots that sailors have used for years. We have been here alone, but we often share the bay with one or two other boats. This year it was the most crowded we have ever seen it with five boats in the harbor. It turned into a wonderful social time in the wilderness. We all got together and had a potluck dinner on the shore of this island, after which we built a campfire and sat around sharing sailing stories. One couple turned out to be musicians and entertained us with sea songs. He played the guitar and sang, while she played the flute. The moon was full, the evening was warm, what more could one ask for?
 

And what is this? A visitor from the sky! See what happens when you wave? Lying at Anchor in Loon Harbor, this seaplane circled over our boat----soon we had a plane tied off behind us.

One of the reasons I love Loon so much is that there are so many uninhabited islands to explore in the area. Some have names, and some are unnamed. This is a view from Spain Island, looking out toward Borden Island.

A dinghy Trip to Spain

One day while visiting Ontario's Wilerness Island Coast we took a dinghy trip from Loon Harbor to Jobin Island with two other couples. Lake Superior generally has very clear water. This photo was taken looking over the side of a steep drop off along the coast of Jobin.
