Sailing Lake Superior  Pukaskuwa

Headlands Trail

One year we sailed east along the shore of Ontario until we reached Pukaskuwa National Park. You can drive to this park as well as arrive by boat, and there is a nice campground for visitors who travel by land. Pukaskuwa is east of a small town named Marathon. It is a wilderness park with a lot of scenic hiking trails, as well as good fishing. This photo shows Lake Superior from Headlands trail.

Lake Superior Beach in Pukaskuwa

We enjoyed many beautiful hikes while visiting Pukaskuwa.  One trail led to this wonderful, sheltered Lake Superior sandy beach.  A great place to sit and watch the waves roll in.

White River Suspension Bridge

If you are visiting Pukaskuwa with a motor boat or have a good dingy, one adventure that is fun to do is to take a trip to the White River Canyon Gorge, then walk the trail there to the canyon. This is a deep river gorge with a 200’ suspension Bridge crossing it. Just walking out on the bridge and feeling it’s movement, then looking down into the canyon below is an experience to remember.
